Gift

I don’t want to bother you with my existence, but I’m so tired of burdening my heart with your absence.

If I am to die today, I will leave for you my soul.
I want her to tell you all the secrets my heart left untold.
I want her to tell you how my heart skipped a beat during your presence.
To tell you how my breath would lose its way during your absence.
Allow her to follow you places I could never go, into your mind, your thoughts, your future—the unknown.

Perhaps you might grow attached to her; you might accept her like winter does the cold.
You might even grow fond of her; she might remind you of a woman who once treasured you like gold.

Have courage and listen to her speak; watch her eyes cry the tears you begged me to keep.
Let her love you as If I were still there, as if I were the sun brightening your darkness with my glare.

Make her smile as you did my lips, for this poor soul carried my sorrow like an everlasting eclipse.
I was happy with what little bit of you I had, but the memories I cherished did nothing but drive you mad.

You thought your absence would discourage me from loving you, let my soul remind you of those days and the pain I lived through.

Now that I’m leaving you, accept my soul, a friend to guide your hand through all your hidden turmoil.

I love you always...yesterday, today and tomorrow.
My soul is for you, let her now carry your sorrow.
